Ass't Prof. Anurag K. Srivastava to speak at ISIS

We will have a visitor, Anurag K Srivastava, from Mississippi State University on November 13th. He will be giving a seminar on “Smart Power Grid: Research Opportunities and Making it Reality”, followed by an open discussion at 10:00 AM in the large conference room.

There will be drinks and coffee at the presentation. If you have any questions about the seminar or wish to meet the speaker afterwards, contact Abhishek Dubey.

An abstract for his presentation and brief CV are attached.

Abstract: As social, economic, and political pressures drive new generation and load technologies with changing policies and standards onto the power grid, the system must continue to operate with a high level of stability, security and reliability. Recent blackouts in the United States and other parts of the world provided evidence that more sophisticated operation and control techniques with enhanced situational awareness and decision support are needed to operate complex electric grid and to ensure secure and reliable energy. Development in digital technology, power generation technology and several other related advancements created opportunities for engineering the smarter power grid. This talk will present research opportunities of interdisciplinary nature for making smart power grid a reality. Specific research work funded by US Department of Homeland Security (DoHS) related to development of well engineered human-machine interface that allows knowledge discovery for comprehensive wide area monitoring and control using techniques based on load flow based sensitivity, Common Information Model (CIM), state estimation including Phasor Measurement Units (PMU) and Sensor Web will be discussed. This talk will also summarize efforts going on at Mississippi State University to build real-time monitoring and control test bed for smart grid using Real Time Digital Simulator (RTDS), Phasor Data Concentrator (PDC) and PMU.
