Janos Sztipanovits was selected as a 2012 W.M. Keck Institute for Space Studies Distinguished Visiting Scholar (DVS) at Caltech in association with the study on "Engineering Resilient Space Systems: Leveraging Novel System Engineering Techniques and Software Architectures."

The W.M. Keck Institute for Space Studies (KISS) was established in January of 2008 at the California Institute of Technology to develop revolutionary new approaches in the areas of space science and engineering.  The Institute brings together the best scientists and engineers from the Caltech CAmpus, NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), and the wider community to address the most challenging questions in space science.  Each year, the Keck Institute initiates a small number of study programs on topics drawn from the disciplines of planetary sciences, astrophysics, cosmology, earth sciences, and space technology and engineering.  The Institute may follow up these study programs with targeted investment in the development of enabling technologies and technical approaches. 

The Keck Institute Distinguished Visiting Scholars play a key role in the activities of the Institute.  The Distinguished Visiting Scholars are internationally recognized scholars with broad expertise in research areas related to the Institute study programs.  Their interaction with colleagues on the Caltech Campus, at JPL, and other visiting scientists and engineers provides a stimulating catalyst for new ideas and approaches to space research and provides the basis for new research collaborations that may develop in the future.  A Keck Institute DVS is afforded his/her own travel budget that will cover all travel for the workshops and an extended visit at Caltech.
