Scientists from the Institute for Software Integrated Systems, University of Houston, and NASA AMES recently published their paper on the opportunities and challenges and approaches for using Blockchains in Cyber-Physical Systems in a special issue of IEEE Computer magazine. In particular, the researchers Scott Eisele, Carlos Barreto, Abhishek Dubey, Xenofon Koutsokous, Taha Eghtesad, Aron Laszka, and Anastasia Mavridou described how they have developed a platform that builds upon blockchains for enabling transactive energy systems (TES). TES are critical for enabling decentralized electrical operations which are important considering the potential vulnerabilities of centralized grid operations, especially in natural disasters such as hurricanes and cyber-threats. The preprint of the paper is available at https://scopelab.ai/files/eisele2020Blockchains.pdf. The final copy of the paper is available on the IEEE website: https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/9187478
